About India

India, officially called the Republic of India is a country located in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country in the words by geographical area, the second-most populous country (over 1.18 billion people). India is bounded by the Arabian Sea on the west, the Indian Ocean on the south, and the Bay of Bengal on the east. India is bordered by Pakistan to the west; China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north, and Bangladesh and Burma to the east.

There are four major religions in India: Hinduism,Buddhism,Jainism and Sikhism, whileZoroastrianism, Judaism,Christianityand Islam arrived to India in the first millennium CE. India was slowly invaded by theBritish East India Companyfrom the early eighteenth century and colonized by the United Kingdomfrom the mid-nineteenth century. India became an independent nation in 1947.
